We land in the afternoon. Is it worth booking anything?
The day you arrive is not a spare day. Whatever you booked competes with a drive or a flight, an unfamiliar rental, a grocery run and a group that is tireder than it admits. The trips that survive that are short, undemanding and forgiving about lateness.

Short, undemanding and easy to book late — the most forgiving thing on this list to put on a day you arrive.
An evening trip after an afternoon arrival is one of the few things that works on day one without rushing anybody.
Workable if you keep it short
Workable if you brief a short, late version. Expensive as a way to spend a travel day.
Do not book this on day one
It needs a boat booked, a cooler packed and most of a half-day. Arrival days rarely have any of the three.
Early departures and a long day on a moving deck are a bad match for the day you drove or flew in.
Taking responsibility for a boat on a day you have been travelling is the wrong order to do things in.
Open-water swimming on a travel day asks a lot of a group that has just spent hours in a car.
What that means in practice
If you book nothing else on the day you arrive, book an evening. It costs you no daylight, it asks nothing of anybody, and it starts the trip properly instead of at a supermarket.
