Your Last Day in Destin: What Fits

Can we fit one more thing in before we go?
A departure day has a hard edge and everything else on it is negotiable except the edge. The question is not whether the activity fits in the time; it is what happens to your afternoon if it runs late, and the answer is usually worse than skipping it.
Where each of the seven lands
Fine before a departure
Brief enough to fit before a late checkout without anybody watching the clock.
Only with an agreed return time
The one format that can be shortened to fit a checkout, if you agree it in advance.
Fine on a last full evening. Useless on a morning you leave.
Leave this off the last day
Sand, salt and a boat return time do not combine well with a checkout and a flight.
The trip runs to its own clock and the catch has to be dealt with afterwards. Neither fits a checkout.
A fixed return time plus a fuel stop plus a deposit release is not what a departure morning needs.
Wet gear, salt and a swim before a drive home is a worse idea than it sounds on the morning.
What that means in practice
If the trip matters, put it on the second-to-last day. The last morning is worth more as slack than as an activity, and it is the only slack a short trip has left by then.
