What we cannot promise you

Most travel sites imply certainty they do not have, because certainty converts. The cost is paid later, by the family who booked around a promise that was never anybody's to make.
So this page exists to be read before you plan, not after something goes wrong. Every limit below changes how we would advise you to build the trip: front-load what matters, keep a day loose, get the policy in writing, and never make a child a promise about a wild animal.
The ten limits
None of these is a disclaimer transferring risk to you. Each is a limit on what we actually know, and each one has a planning consequence.

We cannot promise the weather
Nobody can forecast your specific week from months out. We publish no forecasts and repeat none. Official marine forecasts and warnings are the authority; plan slack into the trip and treat every outdoor booking as movable.

We cannot promise water clarity
Visibility follows wind and rain from previous days, so a bright morning can still mean clouded water. This is the single most common cause of a disappointing snorkelling trip, and no operator controls it.

We cannot promise marine life
Dolphins are wild animals. No cruise can guarantee a sighting, and any operator claiming otherwise is telling you something about the operator. Never promise a child a sighting before the boat leaves.

We cannot promise fishing success
What is biting, what is in season and what may be kept are set by conditions and by regulators, and both change. A good captain improves your odds and your day; nobody guarantees a cooler.

We cannot promise crowd levels
Crowds move with the school calendar, the weather and events we have no visibility of. We describe when things are typically busier, which is a pattern, not a prediction of your date.

We cannot promise restaurant waits or availability
We publish no wait times because we cannot observe them, and a number we invented would be worse than silence. We describe timing strategy instead.

We cannot promise beach conditions
Surf, currents, seaweed and marine-life presence all change daily. The posted beach warning flags and lifeguard direction at your access point are the local authority on whether the water is usable that day — not this site, and not any forecast app.

We cannot promise rental or charter availability
We hold no inventory and check no live availability. Everything we describe about what fills first is a seasonal pattern, and the operator's own booking system is the only thing that knows the truth.

We cannot promise prices
We publish none. Rates move by season, boat size, group size and how far ahead you book. We explain what drives a price up or down so you can compare two real quotes fairly.

We cannot vouch for an individual operator's conduct
We publish the standard we apply and the questions we would ask, so you can apply the same test yourself. We are not a regulator, we do not inspect vessels, and passing our questions does not eliminate risk.
What follows from all of that
If nothing above can be guaranteed, then a good Destin plan is not a plan that predicts correctly. It is a plan built so that being wrong costs you very little.
- Front-load the one booking you would be disappointed to lose, so a weather change has somewhere to move to.
- Leave at least one day of a longer trip genuinely unplanned. That day is what absorbs everything above.
- Get the cancellation and weather policy in writing before a deposit changes hands, and ask specifically whether you receive a refund or a credit.
- Never make a child a promise about a wild animal, clear water or a catch.
- Check the flag board and the hourly forecast each morning, and treat both as authorities over anything you read in advance.
What we can promise
- That every recommendation here shows its reasoning — who it suits, who should skip it, what we assumed, and what would change the answer.
- That we will tell you when nothing on this site fits what you described, rather than routing you to the nearest thing.
- That any paid relationship is disclosed, and that compensation never buys a recommendation.
- That we publish no rating, score, ranking or best-of list, because we have no verified basis for one.
- That a request through the Experience Finder is never a booking, and that we say so on every page that carries it.
The Destin Compass promise
We do not recommend activities because they are popular. We recommend experiences because they are right for the kind of vacation you are trying to create.
- Every recommendation on this site shows its reasoning: who it suits, who should skip it, what we assumed, and what would change the answer.
- We publish no ratings, no scores, no rankings and no best-of lists, because we have no verified basis for any of them.
- We publish no prices, because rates here move by season, boat and group size, and a stale number is worse than none.
- We are not a booking agent. Nothing here holds a boat, a seat or a table, and submitting a request never creates a reservation.
