Should You Stay Near the Harbor or the Beach?

This is the decision that shapes a Destin trip more than any other, because the harbour and the beachfront are not in the same place. The harbour sits on the bay side, where the boats are. The beaches face the Gulf.
Very few bases are genuinely walkable to both. Choosing deliberately is far better than discovering the trade on day two.
The short answer
Harbour-adjacent if the trip is built on boats and evenings out. Early departures stop being logistics and dinner is walkable.
Beach-adjacent if the sand is the point and you would rather drive to the occasional excursion than drive to the beach every day.
