Fishing charters have more moving parts than anything else on this coast: licensing, regulation, motion, an early departure and a catch that has to go somewhere.
Sort these at booking rather than at the dock, when the boat is leaving and nobody has time.
Confirm when you book
- Whether passengers are covered by the vessel's licence or need their own
- What is in season on your date, and what happens to whatever you catch
- Whether cleaning is included, and what you do with the fish afterwards
- How much motion to expect on this specific trip
- What is included in the price and what is charged separately
Match the trip to the group
- Choose the trip length for the least patient person aboard, not the most enthusiastic
- Start inshore if anyone is untested on the water
- Check the minimum age for the specific boat, not for fishing generally
- Be honest with the captain about experience — it changes what they plan
The night before
- Motion-sickness remedy taken as directed, which usually means before you board
- Alarm set for a departure that will not wait
- Layers — it is cold before dawn on the water, whatever the afternoon does
- Non-slip closed shoes, not flip-flops
- Food and drink for the whole trip, within whatever they permit
Fill in before you go
- Departure point and time
- Captain or operator contact
- Trip length agreed
- What we were told about licence coverage
- Where we will cook or store the catch
What this checklist is not
It is not a booking, a reservation or a safety certification. It contains no prices, no operator names and no local phone numbers we have not verified. Anything an operator tells you overrides anything here, and the beach warning flags and lifeguard direction at your access override everything.
